On 20 August 2026, the Ethiopian Air Force (ENDF) conducted two drone strikes suspected of targeting senior TPLF leadership in Mekele, Mekelle (Mekelle Tigray, Tigray). The strikes occurred in two locations within Mekele: one targeted residential buildings in Ward 27/Edamariam, in the Momona neighborhood of Hawelti Sub-City, while the second hit the Kuha area. The TPLF-led Tigray Regional State Communications Affairs Bureau said that 13 people, including 2 to 5 children, sustained light and serious injuries from the strikes and were admitted to the hospital for treatment.
