On 17 August 2026, the Burkinabe army conducted airstrikes targeting militant positions (likely JNIM, based on the presence of the militant group in the area and previous similar operations targeting the group in the region) in the village of Bangassogo (Kiembara, Sourou, Boucle du Mouhoun). These strikes resulted in the neutralization (meaning the killing) of several militants.
