On 17 August 2026, unknown armed assailants hurled a hand grenade in the courtyard of Shama Danesh private school in the Mahdia neighbourhood of Dasht-e Barchi (likely Hazara and Shiite based on the area), Kabul - PD13 injuring 52 students. UNAMA confirmed the incident and the injury of at least 42 students. Some sources described the explosive as unexploded ordnance (UXO) brought to the site by an individual. However, the Taliban Kabul Police Command spokesperson referred to it as a hand grenade.
