CBRN event in Morocco on Sat 15th August 2026
15th August 2026
Moroccan security forces on Saturday clashed with dozens of people, mostly sub-Saharan migrants, who were attempting to irregularly cross the border into the Spanish city of Ceuta.
The clashes took place in a mountainous area about three kilometers from the Ceuta border, on the outskirts of the town of Castillejos. Security forces used tear gas to disperse the migrants, and were also supported by helicopters. Dozens have been arrested.
Furthermore, Moroccan forces forced journalists from TVE and the EFE news agency to leave the area, preventing them from covering the events on site. As TVE's correspondent in Morocco, Arantxa Marculeta, reported on the news program, "We were unable to film the operation because local authorities, who told us they were linked to the Ministry of the Interior, asked us to leave the area and prohibited us from using the Televisión Española camera anywhere in Castillejos."
The authorities have urged them to leave the Moroccan city, and the journalist added that, if they did not comply with the order, "we could lose our press permits, which are what allow us to work in the country, and our images could be confiscated."
