A young woman was killed and eight others, including several students, were injured when a Myanmar military fighter jet bombed the Arakan Army-controlled town of Sami in southern Chin State.

The military airstrike targeted Sami, located in Paletwa Township, late at night on August 12.

The attack killed a 16-year-old civilian woman and wounded eight other residents. The deceased teenager was identified as the daughter of 53-year-old U Ngan Ting and 50-year-old Daw Kyan Nui, residents of Ward No. 2.

The eight injured victims include the deceased girl's parents, U Ngan Ting and Daw Kyen Nu, and their 10-year-old son, Maung Chet Lin Aung. Other wounded civilians include Maung Tun Lin Naing (11), Maung Soe Moe Aung (8), Ma Nwong Hlaing (8), a 5-year-old child, and one unidentified individual.

All injured victims are currently receiving emergency medical treatment.

A local resident told Narinjara News that a military jet dropped four bombs at approximately 11:30 p.m. while the townspeople were asleep. The bombs targeted the entrance of Sami and an old strategic base formerly held by the military, but the explosions directly hit the civilian residential area of Ward No. 2.

This attack follows a separate airstrike on August 11 at around 7:30 a.m., where a military fighter jet fired a rocket near the entrance sign of Paletwa, wounding two teenage schoolgirls.

Observers note that as junta forces continue to suffer heavy casualties in ground battles, the military has increasingly relied on airstrikes to target civilian areas in towns controlled by the Arakan Army across Rakhine State and Paletwa Township.
