A Myanmar military airstrike killed one civilian and injured 22 others in Arakan State’s Thandwe and Gwa townships, according to a report released by the Arakan Army (AA).

The junta military targeted the former bases of the 55th and 566th Infantry Regiments, alongside surrounding residential areas in Ngapali, Thandwe Township, where local civilians and internally displaced persons (IDPs) were sheltering.

Between 1:57 a.m. and 3:18 a.m. on August 21, a fleet of 10 military aircraft, including eight jet fighters, one Y-12, and one Y-8 transport plane, dropped approximately 100 bombs on the area.

The bombardment killed one displaced civilian who had fled to Ngapali for safety and wounded 14 others.

Separately, a junta jet fighter conducted two consecutive bombings on Nyaung Chaung Village in Gwa Township at approximately 5:00 a.m. the same day.

"At 5:01 a.m., a 500-pound bomb struck the Nyaung Chaung Village High School," the AA statement noted. "The attack completely destroyed the school building and injured seven civilians who were using the facility as a temporary shelter."

Minutes later, at 5:05 a.m., a second bomb struck the Dhammarektita Monastery within the same village, injuring another civilian. The explosion damaged the monastery, three nearby houses, a bean oil mill, vehicles, and other public property.

Following the attacks, the AA urged residents across Arakan State to remain highly vigilant against ongoing airstrikes, alleging that the military is intentionally targeting towns, villages, and neighborhoods currently secured by AA forces.
