Five civilians, including children, were killed and 17 others injured in a military airstrike on August 24 in Paletwa Township, Chin State. The township, which borders Rakhine State, is currently under the control of the Arakan Army (AA).
The deceased have been identified as Daw Thantar Phyu (71), Maung Myat Kyaw Naing (10), Daw Khaing Khaing Soe (46), Daw Ma Than Win (36), and Maung Htet Myat Kyaw (1).
The 17 injured individuals include: Maung Phyo Khant (4), Maung Naing Soe Lin (11), Maung Nay Paing Phyo (10), Maung Min Myat Thu (9), Ma Chan Aye May (13), Tin Tin Soe (12), Ma Thaw Ta (7), Ma Khine Aye San (8), Maung Khine Lin Hein (9), Ma Win Mya Oo (27), U Tin Aung Htun (48), Daw Aung Mya Sein (97), Daw Hla Than Win (45), U Tin Htun (48), Daw Chit Su Wai (35), Daw Shwe Yainu (40), and Daw Weedo Ma (60).
At around 11:00 AM on August 24, two junta fighter jets dropped two 500-pound bombs, one 300-pound bomb, and fired eight rockets onto a crowded area along the Kyauktaw-Paletwa highway.
A local resident told Narinjara News that one bomb detonated inside the main monastery of Sein Nyin Wa village, while four others struck the village itself, resulting in the heavy casualties.
"The victims died on the spot. Some of the wounded are in critical condition and are currently receiving emergency medical treatment," the resident said.
The Myanmar military continues to conduct daily airstrikes on civilian-populated villages, frequently resulting in the deaths of women and children.
