A taxi driver was shot dead during the night of Saturday to Sunday, 23 August 2026, by armed men in Butembo, in North Kivu province.
According to Blaise Musovoli, president of the Congo Taxi Drivers’ Network (RETAC), the victim, identified as Kakule Kahamwiti, was shot by the attackers, who also stole his motorbike.
“We are deeply concerned about the shooting death of our taxi driver, Kakule Kahamwiti. He is a member of the AMAJA association. He was shot whilst carrying out his work as a taxi driver. These armed bandits took his motorbike after committing their crime,” he explained.
The Congo Taxi Drivers’ Network (RETAC) condemns this latest murder of one of its members and calls for a thorough investigation to track down those responsible for this act.
The victim’s body was recovered from the scene of the crime and taken to the mortuary at Matanda Hospital, RETAC stated.
