General Staff confirms strikes on Afipsky oil refinery and Astrakhan Gas Processing Plant.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has confirmed that the Afipsky oil refinery in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai was hit.

According to Ukrinform, the General Staff reported this on Facebook.

During the night of August 25, Ukrainian Defense Forces struck facilities at the Afipsky oil refinery.

A fire at the facility has been confirmed. The extent of the damage is still being assessed.

The Afipsky oil refinery is one of the major oil-processing facilities in Krasnodar Krai. It has a designed capacity of 6.25 million tons of crude oil per year. The refinery produces, among other things, diesel fuel and gasoline components and is involved in supplying the Russian military.

In addition, Ukrainian forces confirmed that two U-272 gas separation units at the Astrakhan Gas Processing Plant in Russia’s Astrakhan region were hit during the night of August 24.

The Astrakhan Gas Processing Plant is a major facility in Russia’s gas-processing industry and is part of the Gazprom system. It has a designed capacity of up to 12 billion cubic meters of gas and about 7.3 million tons of gas condensate per year. The facility produces marketable natural gas, stabilized gas condensate, gasoline, diesel fuel, fuel oil, liquefied petroleum gases and industrial sulfur.

Products from the Astrakhan plant are used to supply the Russian Armed Forces, while industrial sulfur is used in the production of explosives.

As reported, a fire broke out at the Afipsky oil refinery during a drone attack overnight on August 25.
