IED event in Maharashtra, Kumnar Forest, Gadchiroli District area, India on Thu 6th August 2026

On August 6, Security Forces (SFs) recovered a Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) arms and explosives cache from Kumnar Forest along the Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh border in Gadchiroli District, Maharashtra, reports Free Press Journal. Acting on intelligence inputs, Gadchiroli Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched a joint search operation under the guidance of Gadchiroli Superintendent of Police M. Ramesh. A team comprising four police contingents, a Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), and a CRPF unit cordoned off the suspected area and unearthed a concealed dump. The recovered cache included one Self Loading Rifle (SLR), one .303 rifle, seven 12-bore rifles, three single-shot rifles, two Barrel Grenade Launchers (BGLs), three SLR magazines, one Improvised Explosive Device (IED), two batteries and Maoist literature. The BDDS secured the recovered explosive material, while the remaining items were seized for further investigation. Police said Maoists had used remote forest areas along the inter-State border to conceal arms and other materials. The recovery comes amid intensified security operations against the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) in Gadchiroli and adjoining areas.
