On August 16, 2026 fighters of Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF) broken through the frontline and launched attacks with heavy weapons against Taliban positions in Zibak District of Badakhshan Province, in which six Taliban fighters have been killed and eight others injured, as posted in X. This ongoing fight started on August 14, when AFF launched pre-emptive attacks, with mortar fires on positions of Taliban in the province.
