According to report, the recovery of a 690-gram improvised explosive device (IED) near a police establishment in Amritsar on the intervening night of August 15 and 16 adds to Punjabs growing string of explosive seizures linked to alleged cross-border terror modules, reports The Tribune on August 18. The device, recovered in the Gaggomahal area in Amritsar District, contained an electronic detonator, battery and timer and was safely defused by a bomb disposal squad. The recovery follows a series of IED seizures in Punjab this year. By July 27, Punjab Police said intelligence-led operations had resulted in the recovery of 12 RDX (Research Department Explosive)-based prefabricated IEDs, along with RDX, detonators, grenades, firearms and an Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG). The operations had also led to the busting of 10 terror modules and the arrest of 137 persons.
