Amritsar Rural Police recovered a 690-gram suspected improvised explosive device (IED), along with an electronic detonator, battery and timer, during night patrolling near Gaggomahal police post in Amritsar District on the intervening night of August 15 and 16, reports The Tribune. The device, concealed in a wax-wrapped packet, was spotted by Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Kulbir Singh. The bomb disposal squad safely destroyed the explosive, while other components were seized for investigation. Police suspect the device may have been intended to target a police establishment.
