A prominent religious scholar, Mufti Janameer, was killed in a blast in Sadar Bazaar of Wana town in South Waziristan District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on August 3, reports The Khyber Chronicles. The explosion occurred inside Wanas Super Market, where Mufti Janameer was deliberately targeted. Mufti Janameer was widely respected in South Waziristan for his efforts to promote peace, social harmony and stability. He had been actively working for the restoration of law and order in the District and was a regular member and prominent speaker of the National Peace Jirga, where he consistently advocated unity, reconciliation and lasting peace in the region. Days prior to his death, he had strongly criticized Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants during an Ahmadzai Wazir tribe peace jirga and was formerly associated with the Mullah Nazir group, adds Frontier Files.
