SAA event in Manipur, Lavo, Noney District area, India on Wed 29th July 2026

On July 29, one Naga Village Guard (NVG) was killed and four persons, including two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel, were injured during an exchange of fire between Security Forces (SFs) and armed village guards at Lavo Village under Noney Police Station in Noney District, Manipur, reports Northeast Now. The incident occurred during a joint operation by Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) commandos and CRPF personnel at an alleged Naga village volunteer camp. The gunfight lasted for nearly 30 minutes. The deceased NVG was identified as Lianbilung Liangmei (22). Two other village guards also sustained injuries. Two personnel of the 186th Battalion CRPF, Head Constable Radheshyam and Constable Jitendrakumar, were injured. SFs subsequently launched a search operation to trace village guards reportedly in possession of unauthorised arms and ammunition.
