IED event in Chhattisgarh, Nilegondi, Kanker District area, India on Wed 29th July 2026

On July 29, Security Forces (SFs) recovered four Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), including one weighing five kilograms and three weighing three kilograms each, during an anti-Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) search operation in the forested and hilly terrain between Khadkagaon and Nilegondi villages under the Kotwali Police Station limits in Kanker District, Chhattisgarh, reports ETV Bharat. According to Kanker Superintendent of Police (SP) Nikhil Rakhecha, a joint team of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) launched the operation in the Khadkagaon-Nilegondi forests near the Amabeda and Kanker Police Station boundaries based on intelligence inputs. During the search, the SFs detected and recovered the four tiffin IEDs concealed by CPI-Maoist cadres. The BDS subsequently neutralised all the explosive devices through controlled detonation at the site, preventing potential casualties among SF personnel and civilians. The operation was led by Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Shailendra Bhaskar of the DRG and ASI Govardhan Korram of the BDS. Police stated that intelligence-based joint search operations would continue in the Maoist-affected border areas to locate hidden explosives and maintain security.
