Novokuybyshevsk oil refinery, Ozon warehouse catch fire in Russia following drone attack – media.
On the night of Saturday, August 22, a fire broke out at the Novokuybyshevsk Oil Refinery in Russia’s Samara region following a drone attack.
According to Ukrinform, this is evidenced by an OSINT analysis by Astra.
Regional authorities announced a drone threat overnight, while local residents reported hearing air defense activity and seeing smoke.
Footage from eyewitnesses analyzed by an Astra OSINT analyst showed that the fire broke out on the premises of the Novokuybyshevsk Oil Refinery.
Samara Region Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev said that the drone attack damaged an “industrial enterprise” and Ozon’s logistics hub in the region. He also reported several people injured.
According to Astra’s OSINT analysis, the fire broke out at an Ozon distribution center in the city of Chapayevsk.
It is noted that two defense-industry enterprises—Promsintez JSC and Polymer JSC—are located just one kilometer from the burning Ozon facility. Promsintez produces industrial explosives, including TNT and ammonites, as well as nitrobenzene, while Polymer manufactures weapons, ammunition and explosives for military purposes.
The Russian service of the BBC reported, citing the Chapayevsk Life Telegram channel, the that roads had been blocked in the area of the Ozon logistics center. The report said the fire covered a very large area.
Ozon said that more than 500 employees were evacuated from its facility in the Samara region within several minutes of the attack. The company also reported several people injured.
The company added that a significant portion of orders would be canceled because of the attack, while some would be fulfilled from other warehouses.
As Ukrinform reported, on the night of August 21, the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck an oil refinery in Perm, more than 1,600 kilometers from the border, as well as the Marinovka military airfield in Russia’s Volgograd region.
