Police Recover Locally Fabricated Pistol, Live Cartridge From Suspect in Ogun

By Zagazola Makama

The Ogun State Police Command has recovered a locally fabricated pistol, a live cartridge and a charm from a suspected community leader accused of planning an unauthorised overnight installation of a Baale in Igbesa, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the state.

The incident occurred on Friday, August 21, 2026, after a community representative reported the matter to the police. According to a security report obtained by Zagazola Makama, Chief Femi Obanla of Oke Sunna Street, Igbesa, reported at the police station at about 7:24 p.m. on behalf of His Royal Majesty, Oba Abdul Azeez Oluwatoyin Akinde.

He reportedly informed the police that a group of persons led by one Adisa Jacob, an indigene of Igbo-Odo village, Igbesa, was allegedly planning to install a Baale overnight without the approval of the Kabiyesi Oloja Ekun of Igbesa land, who is the appropriate approving authority. The complainant expressed concern that the planned installation could trigger tension and lead to a breach of peace within the community.

Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) mobilised a patrol team to the area, while the alleged leader of the group was invited to the station. Statements were obtained from both the complainant and the suspect, while the suspect was detained to prevent any escalation of the situation.

During a routine search conducted on the suspect at the charge room by the night Crime Reporting Officer, Inspector Orojo Sola, the police recovered one cut-to-size locally fabricated pistol, one live cartridge and a small charm concealed inside the suspect’s waist bag. The recovered items have been registered as exhibits as investigation continues into the circumstances surrounding the planned installation and possession of the firearm. The police said the case remains under investigation, with efforts focused on preventing any breakdown of law and order in the community.
