A confrontation between members of the Mexican Navy (SEMAR) and a group of gunmen occurred this Friday, August 7, during a surveillance operation in the community of Coyotitán, in the municipality of San Ignacio, Sinaloa. According to preliminary reports, naval personnel were conducting patrols in the area when they were intercepted and attacked by gunmen, forcing the service members to return fire. Following the shootout, federal forces secured and cordoned off the area of the conflict, while a search and containment operation was implemented in the surrounding area and access roads to Coyotitán to prevent further outbreaks of violence. Unofficially, it was reported that one of the attackers was killed at the scene; however, authorities have not yet issued an official statement confirming the number of injured, dead, or arrested.
