SAA event in Mexico on Thu 20th August 2026

Intense clashes between rival organized crime groups  and the National Guard resulted in a preliminary toll of five aggressors dead and reports of other gunmen abducted in the municipality of Jerez , Zacatecas .

The confrontation occurred around 6:00 p.m. in the southern part of the municipal seat, extending towards the exit to the municipality of Tepetongo . 

According to the state's Secretary General of Government, Rodrigo Reyes Mugüerza , the shootout began between hitmen , initially leaving one gunman dead . Subsequently, four hitmen attempted to flee in a vehicle along the highway.

Members of the National Guard intercepted the moving vehicle; when attacked with gunfire by the suspects, the agents repelled the attack and killed the four occupants .

During the operational interventions in the perimeter, the authorities secured the following equipment and motor vehicles:

• 1 abandoned red pickup truck
• 1 abandoned gray pickup truck
• 1 white pickup truck insured
• 1 abandoned motorcycle

The emergency mobilized members of the Zacatecas Immediate Reaction Force (FRIZ) of the Public Security Secretariat, the National Guard, the Mexican Army, and the Municipal Police, with air support from a Black Hawk helicopter. The deployment of law enforcement forces was concentrated in the area between the San Francisco and Los Sauces neighborhoods, as well as in the community of Ermita de los Correa.

This violent incident occurred one day after the release on social media of a video attributed to a cell of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel ( CJNG ), in which they announced their armed incursion into municipalities in the region, including Jerez .
