Grenade event in Mandalay Region, Taungtha area, Myanmar on Thu 13th August 2026

Warrant Officer Maung Thein from the gas pipeline guard station in Aye village, Taungtha Township, Mandalay Region, was shot and killed on the spot, an official from the Taung Tha People's Defense Force (TTA–PDF) told Khit Thit Media.

Today, August 13, at around 7:00 AM, Warrant Officer Maung Thein from Infantry Battalion 78, who was stationed at the Aye village gas pipeline outpost, dressed in civilian clothes and rode a motorcycle toward Welaung outpost to gather reconnaissance intelligence. When resistance comrades waiting in ambush attempted to capture him alive, he retaliated with a hand grenade.

After throwing the grenade, he abandoned his motorcycle and fled on foot. As revolutionary forces pursued him, he attempted to pull the pin on a second grenade, prompting resistance fighters to open fire. He sustained a gunshot wound to the head and died at the scene.
