Grenade event in Mykolaiv area, Ukraine on Sun 16th August 2026

A man is being sought in Mykolaiv on suspicion of attempted murder. According to investigators, he threw a grenade into a neighbor's apartment. The woman received shrapnel wounds and was taken to the hospital. Her son, who was also in the apartment, was not injured.

This was reported on August 19 by the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Mykolaiv region.

According to investigators, a 17-year-old boy contacted the police on the night of August 16. He reported that a neighbor had thrown an explosive device into the apartment where he was staying with his mother. The incident occurred in a house on Malaya Morska Street.

"The homeowner was taken to a medical facility with injuries from the explosion, and the woman is currently in the hospital. The victim's 17-year-old son, who was also at home, was not injured," the department wrote.

During the inspection of the room, law enforcement officers seized fragments of an explosive device, previously F-1 grenades. They were sent for expert examination.

According to investigators, the woman had been in conflict with her 54-year-old neighbor for some time. On the night of August 16, they quarreled again.

"That night, a 54-year-old man, previously intoxicated, broke a window and threw an explosive through it into the room where the victim was."

Investigators have opened criminal proceedings under the articles "Attempted murder committed in a manner dangerous to the lives of many persons" and "Illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives." The articles carry a penalty of up to 15 years in prison.

Now, investigators have informed the man in absentia of the suspicion and put him on the wanted list.
