Grenade event in Brazil on Tue 18th August 2026

Rio de Janeiro police have put on display the homemade explosives that criminal gangs are dropping from drones. Officers showed a group of journalists the devices seized from recent drone attacks across the city. Most are crude but dangerous: homemade grenades and pipe bombs made from PVC tubes packed with gunpowder, glass shards, and screws. Among them is a new type of explosive that authorities attribute to the Comando Vermelho. The devices remain in police custody pending forensic analysis and will later be destroyed. To illustrate their power, the bomb squad carried out a controlled detonation on site.
