18th August 2026
Two suspected criminals died after an attack on security forces in Colima, where weapons, grenades, drugs and human remains were also seized. A coordinated operation in the Los Angeles neighborhood, in the city of Colima, resulted in the death of two alleged members of a criminal group and the seizure of a significant arsenal, reported the State Coordination Board for the Construction of Peace and Security.
The deployment involved members of the Colima Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, the Secretariat of the Navy, and the State Attorney General's Office (FGE). According to the official report, during the operation, the officers were attacked and returned fire. The two alleged attackers died in the confrontation, while no officers were injured. During the investigation, authorities also located human remains in the area. Their identity and the circumstances of their deaths are currently unknown.
The state prosecutor's office will be responsible for determining this information through investigations and expert studies.
Among the evidence seized were six license plates from different states. One of them could be relevant to solving the murder of Efraín Medina Valenzuela, who served as an advisor and director of Intelligence for the Colima State Public Security Secretariat during the previous state administration.
Medina was murdered on December 15, 2025. According to intelligence reports from law enforcement agencies, one of the license plates is allegedly linked to that crime.
The Attorney General's Office will analyze the evidence to establish its origin and determine if there is any relationship with that homicide or other criminal acts that occurred in the state.
The operation resulted in the seizure of more than 2,500 cartridges of different calibers for long and short firearms, as well as approximately 25 magazines for AK-47 rifles and another 60 magazines for 5.56 caliber.
Five 9mm caliber handguns were also seized, two of them located next to the alleged criminals killed, as well as two fragmentation grenades.
Authorities also seized plate carriers, tactical gear, and communication equipment. Among the items found were 20 badges bearing the initials and slogans of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).
During the operation, several packages containing green herbs with characteristics similar to marijuana were also located, the nature of which will have to be determined through the corresponding analyses.
All the seized material was placed at the disposal of the ministerial authority, which will continue with the investigations to determine its origin and possible relationship with other crimes.
The State Coordination Board indicated that the recovered evidence could contribute to establishing new lines of investigation into high-impact recorded events in Colima, particularly through the analysis of vehicle license plates and other seized objects.
