A military source in Paungbyin told Maung that the Myanmar military fired on warships sailing down the Chindwin River in Paungbyin Township, Maw Laid District, Sagaing Region, destroying two ships and injuring five soldiers.
Since August 14, the People's Defense Forces have been targeting a convoy of warships sailing down the Chindwin River from the port of Paungbyin, firing heavy and small arms along the river, and bombing it with drones.
The attacks were carried out on August 15, and resulted in the destruction of two terrorist warships and the serious injuries and deaths of five soldiers aboard, according to a military source in Paungbyin.
The convoy of 27 warships, including warships, landing craft, and small boats, arrived at Mawlamyine, and the warships damaged by the attack were also towed to Mawlamyine.
"We know that they were carrying jade and timber. Out of a total of 27 vehicles, two were attacked and destroyed, causing them to collide with each other and fall to the ground. The accident occurred because one of the trailers broke open. About 5 people needed emergency treatment. There were many deaths," the military source told Maung.
The attack on the warships was carried out jointly by the People's Defense Army of Mawlay District and the People's Defense Force of Pakatan Harapan Township, and no troops were injured.
Currently, the warships have reached Kalaywa with air support, according to a military source in Paungbyin.
As the warships began to descend from Paungbyin, two K-8 jet fighters from the Homalin Air Force conducted air strikes along the Chindwin River to clear the way.
The terrorist army frequently transports reinforcements, valuables, and weapons to the upper Sagaing Region towns of Khanti, Homlin, Paungbyin, Maw Lai, Kalay, and Kalay Wa, and mainly uses the Chindwin River because of the rainy season.
