At least five civilians were killed on the evening of Saturday 15 August 2026 during a further attack attributed to rebels from the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) in the village of Bandisende, in the Babila-Babombi chiefdom, Mambasa territory, Ituri.

Mr John Vuleveryo, a member of the organisation Protection Plus, reports that during this raid, around fifty other civilians were taken hostage by the attackers.

The victims are mainly farmers. “ADF rebels struck again in Babila-Babombi at around 7 pm.

In Bandisende, these rebels slit the throats of five people.

In addition, around fifty farmers were abducted by these rebels. This toll remains provisional, as searches are ongoing,” he explains.

This human rights defender reports that no information is as yet available on the whereabouts of the hostages. Mr John Vuleveryo calls on the soldiers of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (FARDC) to put in place measures to secure the release of these civilians. The non-governmental organisation Protection Plus is also calling for military operations in forested areas to be stepped up in order to track down the ADF rebels.
