On 10 August 2026, in Kyauk Gyi village (Thandwe township, Thandwe district, Rakhine state), the Myanmar military conducted an airstrike using a jet fighter and dropped three bombs at around 1:00 pm. The bombs exploded near the Dhamma Yaung Chi monastery. On 10 August 2026, Irrawaddy, Shwe Phee Myay News Agency, Myanmar Pressphoto Agency, Narinjara News, Khit Thit Media, The Voice of Chinland - VOC, and Radio Free Asia reported that the airstrike killed over 10 civilians, injured 8 others, and left 2 missing. The attack also destroyed nearly 20 houses, while on 11 August 2026, Myanmar Now reported that the airstrike killed 14 local residents (11 women and 3 men, aged between 9 and 88 years old), injured 11 other civilians (3 women and 8 men), and destroyed 21 houses. On 13 August 2026, Narinjara News and Network Media Group reported that the death toll had risen to 16. Fatalities coded as 16, using the most recent estimate. 16 fatalities.
