UAV event in Libya on Tue 11th August 2026
11th August 2026
On 11 August 2026, in the morning, an unidentified armed group used a drone to strike a diesel storage tank inside the oil refinery in Az Zawiyah (Az Zawiyah, West). The strike set the tank on fire, but emergency crews contained it and prevented it from spreading. Around noon, two FPV quadcopter drones targeted the Zawiya power plant, located near the refinery, with one drone hitting and damaging the fire suppression system and the other crashing near its main fuel tank. Some sources stated that an FPV drone also hit the headquarters of the 77th Division, aligned with local militia leader Mohamed Bahroun, which is located near the power plant, and injured one of its members. In the afternoon, an explosive-laden drone hit and punctured the roof of another diesel storage tank inside the oil refinery, triggering a fire that emergency crews also contained. The attacks took place after other drone strikes in Zawiya targeted an unprocessed naphtha tank on 8 August, a water desalination plant on 9 August, and a gasoline storage tank on 10 August (all coded separately). There were no fatalities.
