Troops Intensify Night Patrols, Restore Calm After Repelling Berom Militia in Mangu, Plateau

By Zagazola Makama

Troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have intensified security operations in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, after foiling  attack by Berom Militia in parts of the area.

A military source told Zagazola Makama that additional troops were deployed from Headquarters OPEP to reinforce personnel already operating in the affected areas.

The militia wielding dangerous weapons and Ak47 riffles attempted to attack fulani communities in   Gwom Gada, Dorong, Rimi, Kadunu, Jimti Jarawa and Gwom Ajang forcing the residents to flee. Troops of Operation Enduring Peace swiftly intervened and repelled the attack after exchanging fire with the attackers.

The troops subsequently conducted robust night patrols supported by intermittent aerial surveillance throughout the night and into the early hours of August 12, 2026.

According to the source, the troops effectively dominated Gwom Gada, Dorong, Rimi, Kadunu, Jimti Jarawa and Gwom Ajang communities in collaboration with local vigilantes.

The sustained security presence has helped to stabilise the general area, which is currently reported to be calm.

Meanwhile, peace talks are ongoing between Berom and Fulani community leaders as part of efforts to de-escalate the already existing tensions and strengthen confidence between the communities.

Further confidence-building measures and clearance patrols are also being planned around the affected areas to encourage residents who fled their homes during the recent incidents to return.

Security forces have continued to maintain a strong presence in the communities to deter further attacks and support ongoing peace-building efforts.
