Parts of Drottninggatan in central Helsingborg had to be closed off. A car left the scene at high speed after hitting a police officer. The officer then fired his weapon.

It was around 3pm on Wednesday afternoon that an alarm was received about a suspected shooting. According to the police, a car had driven recklessly and against a red light in central Helsingborg, where many people were at the time.

When the patrol was about to stop the car, a police officer was hit. The police officer then fired his weapon. The police officer who was hit suffered minor injuries. No one was injured in connection with the shooting.

According to a person SVT spoke to on site, the incident happened very quickly.

Car found – three people arrested

The police say there was no car chase, but rather a search for the car. The car was later found in Ättekulla, a couple of kilometers away.

– There is a suspicion that several people in the car are involved, but we don't know who did what yet, says Jakob Palmgren, press spokesman for the police.

Three people were arrested and are now suspected of attempted murder.

– We are trying to see if they have been caught on camera, says Jakob Palmgren.

Large police operation

There was a large police operation after the incident and parts of Drottninggatan were blocked off.

According to SVT's reporters on site, the scene was searched by dogs and the police interviewed witnesses.

Traffic had to be diverted via a parallel street.

The police department for special investigations will investigate the incident in which a police officer fired his service weapon.

On Wednesday evening, the roadblocks were lifted and traffic was allowed to resume.
