Ukrainian Drone Attack Halts Russia’s Orsk Oil Refinery, Damaging Processing Units.

Russia’s Orsknefteorgsintez oil refinery halted operations on August 11 following an attack by Ukrainian drones. The strike damaged the refinery’s processing units.

The refinery is located in Orsk, in Russia’s Orenburg region, approximately 1,900 kilometers east of the Ukrainian border. According to sources, the damage forced the facility to suspend operations.

Orsk Refinery Capacity

Orsknefteorgsintez is considered a medium-sized oil refinery in Russia. Its nominal capacity is 5.76 million tonnes of crude oil per year, or approximately 115,200 barrels per day.

What the Refinery Produced in 2024

Throughout 2024, the facility processed 4.2 million tonnes of crude oil. Production volumes for its main petroleum products were:

- 1.8 million tonnes of diesel fuel;

- 600,000 tonnes of gasoline;

- 500,000 tonnes of bitumen;

- 200,000 tonnes of fuel oil.

The shutdown of Orsknefteorgsintez could affect oil processing and fuel production in the region. However, the extent of the damage and the timeline for resuming operations at the refinery have not yet been clarified.
