On 4 August 2026, suspected Al Shabaab threw a hand grenade targeting the residence of the Deputy Governor for Political Affairs of Middle Shabelle Region in Hantiwadaag neighborhood in Jowhar town (Jowhar, Middle Shabelle). 2 security personnel assigned to the Deputy Governor were injured. Al Shabaab claimed responsibility.
