On 19 August 2021, in Gangaw Township (Gangaw District, Magway Region), the Gangaw People's Defense Force (believed to be either Gangaw PDF or YDF) attacked the Myanmar military troops with a landmine. At least 20 soldiers were killed. The Irrawaddy reported that Gangaw PDF was responsible for it while the Network Media Group reported that it was YDF who planted a landmine.
