On 6 August 2026, an IED planted by suspected Al Shabaab exploded, targeting civilians travelling along the Mandera-Elwak road near Odole village, within Elwak sub-county (coded to the sub-county headquarters as El Wak, Mandera South, Mandera). At least 6 (other sources mention 10) people sustained injuries during the incident.
