IED event in Colombia on Sat 1st August 2026

On 1 August 2026, in Cucuta - Northeast (Norte de Santander), ELN members detonated a truck bomb loaded with 15 high-powered explosives outside a police station headquarters in the intersection of Libertadores and Cenabastos Avenues, Tasajero neighborhood, severely damaging the premises, nine official vehicles, as well as six houses, and other private buildings near by. At least 11 police officers and three civilians were injured and taken to hospital. A police dog also died due to the attack. Following the attack, other suspected explosives were detonated near the area, but there is no further information regarding those attacks. Authorities stated that prior to the detonation, police officers clashed with armed individuals (coded separately). There were no fatalities.
