SAA event in Mexico on Wed 5th August 2026

Seven hitmen in possession of weapons and equipment were arrested by Federal and State Forces during a surveillance operation in the community of Santa Bárbara, located in the mountainous area of ​​the municipality of Chilpancingo, Guerrero.

The Mexican government's Security Cabinet reported that the joint operation was carried out by members of the Mexican Army, the National Guard, and the State Police.

During preventative patrols in the area, security forces intercepted the suspected individuals and seized the following weapons and vehicles:

• 3 long guns
• 13 chargers
• 566 usable cartridges
• 2 motorcycles

Both the detainees and the weapons and vehicles seized were placed at the disposal of the corresponding authorities to be included in the investigation file.

The intervention of the corporations comes in response to recent episodes of violence reported by residents of Santa Bárbara , who denounced clashes between rival armed groups vying for control of the mountains in the capital of Guerrero.

In recent weeks, several communities in the region have been the scene of incursions and attacks with explosive devices launched by drones. Among the most serious incidents was the one in the town of El Fresno, where the detonation of an explosive device left four people injured, including a woman and a minor.
