SAA event in Mexico on Wed 5th August 2026

A double homicide occurred Wednesday afternoon on the Santa Clara del Cobre – Ario de Rosales highway, near the El Corcuvi neighborhood in the municipality of Salvador Escalante, Michoacán. The victims were two men killed inside a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

After receiving reports to the emergency number, members of different police corporations and experts from the State Attorney General's Office (FGE) went to the site, where they confirmed the death of both men, who had multiple wounds caused by gunshot projectiles.

During the collection of evidence, forensic experts counted and secured 49 spent shell casings of different calibers. Despite the initial intervention, the processing of the scene remained incomplete after relatives of the victims and residents of the community gathered at the site to prevent the removal of the bodies.

Furthermore, the community members prevented the seizure of the truck involved and three cell phones found at the site, which supports what has always been known: community members in many regions of that state are part of organized crime; handing over the cell phones would reveal what the murdered individuals were involved in.

Due to this resistance, the ministerial staff were only able to remove the shell casings and complete the corresponding reports before leaving the area. The State Attorney General's Office reported that the investigation remains open to identify the attackers, clarify the motive for the attack, and complete the pending procedures.
