SAA event in Mexico on Tue 4th August 2026

A confrontation between an armed group and security forces occurred in the community of Mesa de Palmira, in the municipality of Joaquín Amaro, Zacatecas, when federal and state agents were ambushed while carrying out preventive patrols as part of Operation SAGAZ (Security Aguascalientes-Zacatecas).

In response to the attack, the security forces repelled the aggression and deployed a coordinated response device between the National Guard, the Zacatecas Immediate Reaction Force (FRIZ) and the State Attorney General's Office, managing to neutralize the risk in the area.

As a result of the operation, one hitman was killed at the scene and two young female hitmen, aged 14 and 17 , both from the state of Durango , were arrested.

Also, at the site of the attack, the authorities secured the following tactical and military equipment:

• 1 pickup truck with homemade armor
• 3 long guns
• 10 chargers
• 317 usable cartridges

Diverse tactical equipment The detained minors, as well as the vehicles, weapons and equipment seized, were placed at the disposal of the competent authorities to determine the legal status of those involved and to continue the ministerial investigations.
