SAA event in Mexico on Tue 14th July 2026

An attack carried out on Tuesday afternoon in the municipality of Tecate, Baja California, resulted in the death of Jesús Pereida, a former public security adviser, and left his wife, Morena councillor María Quijada, seriously injured.

The attack also left two other people who were accompanying the councillor injured. The attack took place at approximately 5.17 pm on 14 July on Coyuca Street, in the La Hacienda neighbourhood. The couple were travelling in a Kia car, with registration number 9TWY116, when they were intercepted by a group of hitmen who fired directly at the vehicle.

Due to the severity of the multiple gunshot wounds she sustained in various parts of her body, Councillor María Quijada was rushed to the United States to receive specialist medical care at a hospital in California. Sources close to the case report that her condition remains critical.
