Journalist, lawyer, and professor Josué Martínez Contreras, director of the digital news site Noticias San Martín Texmelucan , was murdered yesterday just meters from his home in the municipality of San Martín Texmelucan, Puebla.

The killing sparked condemnation from the local community and press organizations. According to reports from police sources, Martínez Contreras, 39 years old, was intercepted by two hitmen traveling on a motorcycle , who shot him repeatedly at close range before fleeing the scene.

Witnesses reported that the journalist was walking with his 13-year-old son when he was attacked. After hearing the gunshots, neighbors called emergency services. Paramedics and public safety officers arrived at the scene within minutes, but could only confirm the journalist's death due to the severity of the gunshot wounds he received.

The minor was physically unharmed in the attack, although he received attention and support from the relevant authorities due to the nervous breakdown caused by the incident. Josué Martínez Contreras combined his journalistic work leading the digital media outlet with practicing law and teaching in the region.

In response to the crime, the municipal government of San Martín Texmelucan issued a statement of condolence through its official channels. “We join in the grief that overwhelms his family, friends and colleagues, wishing them strength, comfort and swift resignation in these moments of profound sorrow.” The Puebla State Attorney General's Office cordoned off the area to collect evidence and opened the corresponding investigation file to determine if the motive for the murder is linked to his journalistic activity or his professional performance as a lawyer.
