On 28 July 2026, in Myawaddy township (Myawaddy district, Kayin state), the Myanmar military conducted an airstrike and dropped a 500-lb bomb with a fighter jet which fell and exploded at the Thone Htet Kwae Yat Taw Mu pagoda hill area on the Myawaddy - Waw Lay road while the Waso Robe Offering ceremony was being held. Network Media and Radio Free Asia reported that a head monk and two monastery attendants were injured. The head monk died from injuries and Khit Thit Media reported that the head monk and two monastery attendants were severely injured. The monastery buildings were also damaged. Fatalities coded as 0, using the lowest estimate.
