UAV event in Egypt on Wed 29th July 2026
29th July 2026
On 29 July 2026, a drone suspected to have been operated by Iran struck a U.S.-owned LNG floating storage facility and a Greek-owned LNG tanker in the port of Damietta (Damietta 1, Damietta). The strike caused a fire on both vessels, but there were no casualties. Damietta is one of Egypt's main natural gas hubs, hosting key LNG facilities that serve its import and export ambitions. Iran's Foreign Minister denied responsibility for the attack and warned of possible Israeli 'plots and false-flag operations.' Egypt did not immediately attribute responsibility for the attack to any group.
