The Myanmar military launched a heavy aerial bombardment on the famous beach resort town of Ngapali in Arakan/Rakhine State on August 3, injuring two civilians and damaging around 20 buildings, including beachfront bungalows. The attack caused property losses estimated at over 300,000 kyats.
According to local sources, the military deployed three jet fighters and one Y-12 transport aircraft to bomb the town in Thandwe Township, with the strikes commencing around 10:30 a.m.
The Arakan Army’s (AA) Press and Information Department released a statement on August 3, reporting that the aircraft dropped nearly 60 bombs on residential areas in the Jittau (9) neighborhood of Ngapali.
Two local residents, identified as U Kyaw Thu Naing, 41, and Daw Masan Myint, 60, sustained injuries during the attack.
The AA statement noted that civilian casualties remained relatively low because many residents managed to evacuate the area just in time.
However, the bombardment caused significant destruction to local infrastructure.
Approximately 20 houses, bungalows, and other civilian facilities were either destroyed or heavily damaged.
