At least 44 militants and three police officers have been killed in separate security operations and armed clashes across Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces over the past 24 hours, authorities said.

Pakistan's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said the three officers, including a deputy superintendent of police (DSP), were killed when militants attacked a police checkpoint in the Hangu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa late Wednesday, News.Az reports, citing Anadolu Agency.

Security forces repelled the assault, killing eight militants during the firefight, while 18 police personnel were injured, according to police.

Earlier, the military's media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), said security forces killed 24 militants during multiple intelligence-based operations in the Khyber district, near Pakistan's border with Afghanistan.

The military also reported that eight militants were killed in separate operations in Nushki district in the southwestern province of Balochistan.

According to the ISPR, troops recovered and destroyed weapons, ammunition and improvised explosive devices during the operations, with follow-up clearance missions continuing to search for any remaining militants in the affected areas.
In a separate operation, police said four suspected militants were killed in Swat district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where security forces continue search operations.
Swat, one of Pakistan's leading tourist destinations, was once a stronghold of militant groups before a major military offensive in 2009 restored government control over the valley.

Pakistan has experienced a resurgence in militant violence in recent years, with Islamabad repeatedly accusing the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) of launching attacks from bases in neighboring Afghanistan. The Taliban-led government in Kabul has consistently denied the allegations.
