Five soldiers killed in clashes in Ywanan Township, army prepares to deploy troops into villages
Yangon, July 26
A clash between the armed forces and the rebels took place on the evening of July 22 near Sinsa Pyay village in Ywanyang Township, southern Shan State, leaving five soldiers dead and at least 10 wounded, a local source told Yangon Times. The skirmish did not last long and there were no casualties on the military side. After the skirmish, the bodies of soldiers and the wounded were transported back to Ywanan town by car along the village roads. "It is true that there was a fight. It is not known which armed rebel group was involved. Locals said they saw dogs carrying away bodies and wounded people after the fight," a local source said.
Yangon Times News contacted the armed resistance forces in Ywanan Township to find out the details of the fighting, but they have not yet responded. In addition, the revolutionary forces have warned local residents to be cautious as all the military council troops in southern Shan State have returned to their camps and may enter Ywanyang Township, where the administrative apparatus has collapsed, with full force to clear the area. The local source added that the military council may also be stepping up its crackdown on porters to bolster its forces.
