Police reopened a downtown stretch of Elm Street Tuesday morning after investigators determined that a suspicious package had been holding a tent, and not a bomb.

Someone flagged down an officer to report a suspicious package, which was found on Orange Street, according to city police spokesperson Officer Christian Bruckhart.

At around 9:40 a.m, Lt. David Giuliuzza told the Independent that a bomb team was examining the package.

For about 30 minutes Tuesday morning, pedestrians and cars were not allowed on the stretch of Elm Street between Church and State streets. Police had also closed down a portion of Orange Street between Wall and Elm streets.

Those streets are now open to pedestrian and car traffic.
