On 17 July 2026, two Thai soldiers were injured after one of them stepped on an old landmine while clearing vegetation inside Phupha Operational Base in Sao Thong Chai, Kantharalak (Si Sa Ket). The explosion only partially detonated, causing minor injuries to one soldier's right foot and ankle and blast-related injuries to another soldier from flying debris. Military authorities stated that the explosive device was an old remnant mine and initiated further clearance operations to identify any additional unexploded ordnance in the area.
