On 1 August 2021, an IED presumably planted by the Islamic State detonated south of Bir Al-Abd (Biear Al Abd, North Sinai), injuring 4 civilians and killing 1 other. Militants planed an IED in a power transformer, and when the civilians who are employees of an electricity company opened the transformer to repair it, the IED detonated.
