On 12 July 2026, around 2:40 am Muscat time, suspected Iranian forces (coded as IRGC by default) launched drone strikes on several sites in Musandam Governorate (coded separately), including one that directly impacted container ship GFS Galaxy (IMO: 9401271) in the Strait of Hormuz, 9 nm east of Oman (coded to the Coast of Musandam) (Musandam, Musandam), causing material damages to the rear of the vessel and a fire to the engine room, which led the crew to abandon the vessel in a lifeboat. Omani authorities rescued the 23 crew members, while search operations were underway for 1 missing Indian-national crew member. UKMTO stated the vessel was 9 nm off the coast of Musandam at the time of attack, while other sources reported its location was 4.4 nm off the coast at the time of its distress call. No damages to other sites in the Governorate were reported.
