IED event in Bihar, Lakhisarai District area, India on Wed 1st September 2021

An encounter between Bihar Police and Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres took place in Lakhisarai District of Bihar on September 1, reports Kalinga TV. An official said, the anti-Naxal [Left Wing Extremism, LWE] operation started on August 31 evening after District Police learnt that Maoist ‘commander’ Baleshwar Koda along with his squad are hiding in the forest of Bangali Bandh under Piri Bazar Police Station limits in the District. Accordingly, a joint team of Lakhisarai Police and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) have launched a massive operation in the area. The Security Forces (SFs) managed to corner the squad of Koda in the forest of Bangali Bandh followed by massive firing from both sides. The firing continued till 3 a.m., and later on, the Maoists managed to flee from the place by taking advantage of the darkness. Sources have said that several Maoists have sustained gunshot injuries. Blood spots at several places have been found and two rifles and a large number of live cartridges were recovered from the place of encounter.|Meanwhile, posters allegedly put up by Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres demanding reduction in bus fares and toll taxes triggered panic among transporters in Gaya District of Bihar on August 31, reports Hindustan Times. Some of the posters were left on the drivers’ seats of many buses and auto-rickshaws and said they should be plied after the reduction in fares. The posters also urged the Bihar Government to bring down the State component of fuel taxes to reduce their prices. They held Prime Minister Narendra Modi responsible for the fare and toll tax rise. Gaya (city) Superintendent of Police (SP), Rakesh Kumar said they have seized the posters and were investigating the matter.
